Hot on the heels of ‘For The Beloved’, the first release on Jack Said What by Dave Beer & The Blessed which featured the legendary Robert Owens on vox and came with remixes by the equally legendary Todd Terry, comes this double-header.

First up, ‘Come Together’ is a low-slung glitchy groover that features words by Sundiata Oba Mausi, an associate of Chez Damier and Ron Trent in Detroit. Dave met Sundiata in America and recorded some of his distinctive exclamations that, when treated via studio trickery, recall elements of David Byrne & Brian Eno’s ‘My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts’ project. Its message of unity in the face of oppression couldn’t be more prescient for today’s uncertain global landscape.

‘Erectile’, meanwhile, is far from dysfunctional. Breathy beats and funky fillups rev up the track, which rises into a breezy groove resplendent with distant wildlife, a cheeky chuckle and a mysterious spoken word vox.

This is the second release from Dave Beer & The Blessed in the lead-up to the release of the project’s debut album. As has been well documented, Back To Basics man Dave — a recent convert to Buddhism — had a cancer scare at the end of 2024 during which he nearly died, but he’s come out the other side and is back to his effervescent self once again. This single sees him back to where he belongs — at the heart of his beloved dance scene, bringing everybody together.
