‘Transition’ is a classic sounding house cut that could easily have come from the Azuli or Strictly stables. With a near-familiar diva vocal sample, expansive synth chords and a cinematic interlude in the breakdown, ‘Transition’ is built for the friendliest, fun-filled dancefloors. You can almost see the Glitterbox confetti cannons exploding and fabulous drag queens twirling when it kicks back in after the drop.
Acclaimed Brighton-based producer NOLAN, who frequently releases on labels such as Renaissance and John Digweed’s Bedrock, turns in a remix for more progressive floors. Elongating the cinematic breakdown so that it’s essentially half of the whole tune, he sculpts it into a transition track that provides as much respite on the dancefloor as it does da funk.
Serge has rebooted his Stompa Phunk parties in Brighton over the past couple of years, and they’ve been a resounding success. There have been a few Jack Said What parties in association with Stompa Phunk — sometimes daytime raves in pubs, other times late-night dance parties in clubs — and these will continue sporadically into the future. Sometimes together, sometimes separately, but always sexy and on-point.
